Getting Started
Alpha Nation — Beginner's Guide
Alpha Nation is free to play and runs entirely in your browser — no download or installation required. Getting from zero to actively competing takes about fifteen minutes. Here's everything you need to know to get started.
Creating Your Account
Click Registerin the top navigation and choose your commander name. This is your identity in Alpha Nation — it appears on the leaderboard and in alliance communications, so choose something you like. You'll also set an email and password.
Once registered, you'll be taken to the Portal, the hub for all active servers. Alpha Nation may run multiple servers simultaneously — each is a separate competitive round with its own leaderboard.
Joining a Server
From the Portal, select an active server and click Join. You'll be prompted to name your nation — this is separate from your commander name. Pick something memorable; rival nations will know you by this name on the leaderboard.
Once you join, your nation is created with a small starting land base, a population, basic buildings, and a modest cash reserve. Every other player on that server started the same way at the beginning of the round. Your goal: outgrow, outmaneuver, and outlast them over the course of the round.
How Turns Work
Alpha Nation advances in turns. The game processes a new turn on a fixed schedule — typically every 10 to 30 minutes — and at each turn:
- Your population generates cash from buildings and taxes
- Construction projects advance
- Military units regenerate readiness
- Resource production ticks forward
You don't need to be online every turn. The game runs whether you're logged in or not. Your nation will accumulating unused turns and market orders will sell, etc. However, active players who log in frequently can respond to threats, seize market opportunities, and time their attacks for maximum impact.
Your First Actions
When you first log in, head to the Buildpage and start constructing your economic foundations. Farms increase your population and food production. Factories generate income. Industrial Complexes allow you to train military units. Early in a round, prioritize economic growth over military — you won't be able to win wars if your economy can't sustain an army.
Visit the Research page early and review the technologies. Research takes turns with Research Labs or can be purchased on the market and the benefits compound — nations that obtain research early pull ahead on every economic and military metric.
Check the Rankings to see where you stand. If your server has clans enabled, look at the clan standings and consider reaching out to an established clan. Being part of a clan means access to shared intelligence, coordinated attacks, and experienced players who can help you avoid common beginner mistakes.
Staying Safe Early
New players are often targeted by larger nations. Most servers include some form of GDI (Global Defense Initiative) that limits how aggressively large nations can attack very small ones — this gives you a window to grow without being immediately destroyed.
Don't panic if you get attacked. Even losing a battle doesn't mean your round is over. Rebuild, join an alliance, and look for opportunities to fight back. Some of the most satisfying moments in Alpha Nation come from recovering after a devastating early attack and still finishing the round in a competitive position.
