Alpha Nation Game Guide

Military power determines who conquers and who is conquered. In Alpha Nation, building the right forces, knowing when to strike, and understanding how attacks are resolved separates dominant nations from easy targets. This guide covers the essentials.

Unit Types

Alpha Nation has five unit types, each with a distinct role and attack power rating. Units are produced by your Industrial Complexes based on the allocation you set on the Manage screen.

Troops

1 attack powerOffense & Defense

Your most affordable ground unit. Troops form the bulk of most armies — cheap to produce in volume and effective on both offense and defense. When attacking, they capture land and grind down enemy forces. When defending, they absorb incoming attacks. Build lots of them early.

Tanks

4 attack powerOffense & Defense

The most powerful standard combat unit in the game. Tanks hit four times as hard as a single Troop and work on both offense and defense. They cost significantly more to produce and maintain, but a well-armored nation with a strong tank force is difficult to overrun. Prioritize tanks once your economy can support them.

Jets

2 attack powerOffense only

Air attack units that can only be used when you are the aggressor. Jets deal double the attack power of Troops and are effective at breaking through defensive lines, but they provide zero defensive value — they sit idle when you are attacked. Use them to punch through a target's defenses on a strike, but don't rely on them to protect you.

Turrets

2 defensive powerDefense only

Purely defensive installations that protect against both ground and air attacks. Turrets cannot be used offensively but are highly cost-effective at holding your nation when you are under attack. A nation with a strong turret line is much more expensive to conquer, which often deters smaller attackers entirely.

Spies

Covert operations

Spies are a special unit that can only be produced by Industrial Complexes — not purchased on the market. They don't fight in conventional battles. Instead, they are used to commit espionage and covert actions against other nations: stealing intelligence, sabotaging infrastructure, or disrupting enemy operations. Success depends on how many spies you field relative to your target's counter-intelligence. A strong spy network is a force multiplier that operates in the shadows.

How Attacks Work

To attack another nation, navigate to the Attackpage and select a target. You can attack any nation that isn't protected from you by the Global Defense Initiative (GDI). Watch out for diminishing returns, nations that have been hit recently may have less returns!

When you launch an attack, your offensive forces clash with the target's defensive forces. The outcome depends on:

  • Your attacking power relative to your opponents defensive power.
  • Research bonuses that modify offensive or defensive effectiveness
  • Government type bonuses
  • Unit readiness — units that have fought recently are less effective

A successful attack captures some of the defender's land, cash, food, etc and may destroy some of their buildings. A failed attack costs you units without gaining territory. Timing your attacks — when enemy readiness is low from recent battles, or when they're short on defensive forces — is a key skill.

War Mechanics

Wars in Alpha Nation are declared formally through the War page or escalate organically through repeated attacks. When two nations (or clans) are at war, the conflict becomes a race: who can destroy enough of the other's military and economic capacity to force them to capitulate or collapse?

Effective war-fighting involves more than just sending troops:

  • Coordinate with clan allies to attack from multiple directions simultaneously
  • Target the enemy's economic buildings to reduce their income and slow their recovery
  • Use spy operations to gather intelligence before committing forces
  • Monitor the attack log to understand when the enemy attacks and time your counter-strikes

Defending Your Nation

Defense is never purely passive. A nation that only defends will eventually be worn down. But strong defenses buy you time — to call in allied support, to rebuild, or to negotiate a ceasefire.

Maintain a defensive force even during peacetime. Nations with no military are inviting targets. The cost of maintaining a basic defensive force is far less than the cost of rebuilding after being completely overrun. Prioritize units that counter your most likely threats.

Spy operations can also be defensive. Detecting an incoming attack before it happens — through espionage on rivals — gives you time to mobilize, request allied help, or negotiate a non-aggression pact before the conflict begins.
