Alpha Nation Game Guide

Research is one of the most powerful and most overlooked systems in Alpha Nation. Technologies take time to develop, but the cumulative bonuses they provide — to income, military strength, unit efficiency, and more — compound over the course of a round into massive advantages. Nations that neglect research early find themselves permanently behind on every metric that matters.

How Research Works

Your research is driven by your research labs. The more research labs you have built, the faster you progress through the tech tree. Each turn, your research buildings contribute tech points, which are applied toward whichever technology you've researched.

Economic Research Priorities

Early economic technologies typically improve industrial output, agricultural yield, or population growth rates, etc. These are high-priority early-game choices because they pay dividends every single turn for the rest of the round. An income boost of 5% gained on day three compounds across the entire round; the same technology researched on day twenty provides far less total value.

Military Research Priorities

Military technologies improve the offensive and defensive effectiveness of your units — effectively making each unit stronger without increasing the number of units (or their cost). A nation with highly researched military technologies can punch well above what their raw unit count suggests.

The most impactful military research tends to be:

  • Weapons technology — direct offensive and defensive combat bonus Warfare technology - increase the likelihood of developing a missile
  • Explore the full tech tree in game!

Research Strategy Tips

Build research infrastructure early. Research labs cost land, but the return on that investment — faster technology development across the entire round — is almost always worth it in the early game. Many top players commit a significant portion of their early land to research buildings before pivoting to economic or military expansion.
